Frequently Asked Questions

What is a GPU and how does it help a VPS?
A Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is a specialized processor originally designed to accelerate graphics rendering. Because they are highly efficient at handling parallel tasks and complex calculations, GPUs can also be leveraged to perform ultra-fast analyses of trading algorithms, backtest strategies against historical data, rapidly process Monte Carlo simulations, and more efficiently analyze market data & execute high-frequency trades relative to traditional CPUs. GPUs are true masters of multitasking; meanwhile, us humans can barely text and walk at the same time.
What is a VPS?
A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a slice of a powerful computer pie specifically reserved for your trading activities. It’s your own virtual pie slice, if you will. A VPS runs independently of your home computer and internet connection, which means you can execute trading algorithms 24/7, even if you are not remotely connected to the server at any given time. Although a VPS can be accessed from anywhere in the world with an internet connection, the location of the server itself matters for trading. Our servers are located in data centers within financial hubs, which minimizes latency and ensures near-instantaneous order execution times.
Can I trade order flow on your GPU-accelerated VPS?
You can. A GPU-powered VPS significantly enhances the analysis of trading order flow, which is the real-time recording of buy and sell orders waiting to be matched in the market. Order flow analysis requires processing vast streams of data in real time to identify buy and sell pressure and then predict price movements. GPUs, with their parallel processing capabilities, can handle this influx & processing of data more efficiently than CPUs, reducing latency and improving the timeliness of the analysis. This is of particular importance during periods of high volatility when the order book can change quite rapidly.
What operating systems does ChartVPS VPS offer?
Our GPU-accelerated VPS, like all of our other plans, include the option of running either Windows Server 2022 or Linux (Ubuntu 22.04), depending on your preference. There's no additional fee for choosing either operating system; both are included in the service. If you’d like to run Windows 11 Pro, you’ll have to opt in for Alpha-Series VPS or a Dedicated Server.
Can I Use My Microphone and Camera with My Server/VPS?
Yes but keep it PG, please. This article will walk you through enabling and configuring microphone and camera access on your server for applications that require them.
How Can I Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on My VPS? Answer: Enabling MFA adds an extra layer of security to your VPS by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password. Check out this guide for setting up MFA on your VPS.
